This lyric portrait of life—and the little donkey, Platero—in a remote Andalusian village is the masterpiece of Juan Ramón Jiménez, the Spanish poet awarded the 1956 Nobel Prize for Literature.
This particular edition of Platero and I, is a first edition of the English translation produced by The Dolphin Book Company in 1956, the same year Juan Ramón Jiménez received his Nobel Prize. The dust jacket has been lost on its journey however the cover retains its original gilt detailing to the spine, with wear to the top of the spine and corners as shown. The illustrations produced by Baltasar Lobo are beautiful and include a portrait of the author and feature throughout the book. The pages are in good condition for their age with no markings or owner’s inscriptions visible.
For any collector or fan of Spanish literature, this is an essential part of a collection!
