The Posthumous Papers Of The Pickwick Club follows the leader of the Pickwick Club, Samuel Pickwick, through his adventures through the English countryside and the characters that he meets.
It started life serialised as the publisher Chapman & Hall had a series of sporting plates they wanted “captioning” essentially and turned into a novel. This was so incredibly popular that unauthorised versions of The Pickwick Papers began popping up and Chapman & Hall eventually published the series.
This particular edition was the 1868 illustrated version in a half leather bound binding. The page edges are have a marble effect and unfortunately does show foxing throughout along with two owners notes, one a pair of initials and the second an owners name as shown. The spine is in good condition overall, however the cover has met with a spill at some stage showing damage on one side. The pages do seem to be intact even if there are a few loose as seen from the side angle. Overall a book that has been on many adventures through the years, however a cracking piece of English history of one of our most popular authors.
