This beautifully presented set of six volumes complete with original box case were produced by Thomas Nelson & Sons in the 1950’s. The titles included are some of the greats in the fiction titles available at the time and include the following:

The Coral Island by R.M.Ballantyne
Tom Brown’s Schooldays by Thomas Hughes
The Last Of The Mohicans By James Fenimore Cooper
King Solomon’s Mines By H. Rider Haggard
Each volume is illustrated with bright red painted edges, gilt detailing to the spine and protective covers as shown in the photos, which have received some damage.
This particular set has a brilliant bit of history attached, the book market post war was exceptionally competitive therefore Thomas Nelson & Sons had to come up with a cunning plan. They settled on specialising in the holiday and gift market, these boxed sets were aimed as graduation gifts, sets to treasure for a lifetime. This entailed tinting the top end pages, including gilt detailing and custom slipcases.
This particular set has survived its travels well, with the volumes themselves in very good condition with no owners marks visible. The only major sign of age or use is the discolouration to the exterior box case as shown.
