One particularly happy Kokeshi, spending their free time fishing in the river, complete with boat and a drinks gourd. Kokeshi style ornaments, have a very long and developed history, initially created during in the mountainous areas of northern Japan, during winter when we all have to admit we have more free time on our hands at home. People started to carve this little toy dolls which ended being sold to tourists visiting the hot springs in the summer.
This kokeshi doll is from Kanzanji, a hot spring town located in the Shizuoka Prefecture.He is in good condition with all elements of his fishing trip present with no major marks or signs of wear, measuring at approximately 8cm high and 10.5cm wide at the base.
