Vallaruis pottery is well known and collected for its signature brightly coloured glazes and extravagant shapes and this fish plate is no exception! It’s been beautifully decorated in a deep chocolate brown glaze with a sea foam style edge and hand painted mouth and eye. With a slight flare to the base, this plate will make a great statement on your wall or as a serving platter!
Vallaruis Pottery has an almost 2000 year history as the town has been known for its clay deposits and craft since Roman times. It is known as “the city of 100 potters” brought back to life just after war with Picasso settling down there, during the mid century modern period it started becoming known for its signature style.
This particular plate is in good condition with no major cracks or crazing and measures at approximately 26cm in length and 25cm in width. There is one small chip to the back of one of his spines, this however is covered in the glaze therefore I do believe occurred during manufacture.
