‘Le Banquet’ by René Magritte was created in 1956 and describes a series of surrealist paintings created around the theme of seeing the unseen, as shown by the sun clearly visible through the trees. Placing objects together that are completely unrelated and therefore changing their identity as a whole is a theme throughout Magritte’s work and a prime example is shown here.
This particular postcard was created in 1977 by the Société des auteurs dans les arts graphiques et plastiques and printed in France. The postcard measures at approximately 10.5cm by 15cm, is unposted and blank to the back with only minor bend to the corners as shown.
