This Roman bust is heavily suspected to be of ‘Clytie’ a sea nymph, whose unrequited love for the sun god Helios eventually led to her turning into a sunflower, doomed to follow the sun throughout each day. This bust shows the start of the slow transformation.
There is an argument however that the bust is of Antonia Minor, an incredibly impressive female historical figure who was the daughter of Marc Anthony and Octavia and taught three generations of the imperial family.
Either way, the bust is a stunning piece of art and the postcard a beautiful way to add a piece of beauty to a hidden corner or nook. The postcard itself was produced in 1992 by the British Museum and is in good condition for its age, some slight discolouration to the back with some crease marks to the front as shown in the photos. It measures at approximately 10 by 15cm.
