It’s rare to come across a true specimen of movie history however this 24 inch reel is a true collectors item for movie fanatics. Designed for “long play” reels allowing for a whole film to be played in one or two reels rather than in 20 minute intervals as previously used in vertical projectors. The platter system would most likely have been purposed here, instead of a vertical projector, this reel would have sat on a horizontal plate or “platter” to bear its weight. It would’ve held 35mm film which was the professional standard size for film making, films like The Wizard Of Oz and Star Wars were shot on 35mm film for example.
Now this workhorse has been happily retired and waited in its gold coloured glory for its next resting place. Perfect as wall decor or a home ornament, why use a plastic reproduction when the real thing has such presence. It shows markings of its working life, as shown with a few nicks to the colour however is in exceptional condition considering its lifespan and working use. It measures at approximately 63cm in diameter and weighs nearly 4kg.
