A truly rare find, this taxidermy seahorse brooch I have found from research, was a craze in the Victorian era as flora, fauna and etymology were extremely popular. The rise of taxidermy and its various art forms has created many of the vintage taxidermy pieces that you see today. It is rare however to come across a seahorse from this time, especially in such good condition with the crystal eye detail intact. He is curled beautifully with his tail coming across in an almost L shape with a working brooch mechanism to the back.
Overall he is in good condition and measures at approximately 5cm at the widest points. The box, as shown, is not his original home, however as he fits so perfectly it will be included with the brooch as appropriate storage.
