An elegant fishtail (or beak, whichever your preference) style sommerso glass vase made in Murano in Italy in the style, if not made by, Flavio Poli.
The beautiful shape is hand pulled and something truly special about this vase is the sommerso technique used to make it. You may already know and admire the skill however if you are not the master glassblower, sommerso or “submerged glass” is a technique of layering different coloured glass without mixing them. This is achieved by dipping different coloured glass in differing molten colours and finally blown and pulled into the wanted shape. Truly beautiful to witness and tremendously clever.
This particular vase is a combination of clear, light brown and a green tint and truly beautiful in person! It measures at approximately 26cm in total height 14cm at its widest points. It is studio glass therefore hand pulled and this vase does have indents at the points where the tongs have pulled, I think this is a beautiful mark of its craftsmanship, however if you prefer a polished piece without imperfections, it is better to be forewarned!
